General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan opened a new political sequence in Sudan on Monday evening, after months of deadlock and deadly repression.

He called on "

the political parties and the revolutionary organizations

 " Sudanese "

to engage in an immediate and serious dialogue to form a government of competent personalities

 ", but without further details.

Concretely, this means that he calls on his adversaries to participate in

the dialogue mechanism initiated by the UN, the African Union and Igad

, a mechanism in which the latter have refused to participate until now, precisely because of the presence putschist soldiers.

He added that "

the army will no longer participate

 " in this "

dialogue

" and will confine itself in the future to its national "

defense and security

 " tasks.

He also announced that the Sovereign Transitional Council, which he had led since the October 25 coup, "

could be dissolved

" after the formation of a civilian government.

A “

supreme council of the armed forces

 ” will however be formed.

The formation of a civilian government is one of the demands of the revolutionary forces which have been occupying public places since Thursday in Khartoum and its suburbs, and in several cities of the country.

For the time being, the main opposition forces have not yet reacted to this announcement.

On the ground, in the evening,

several sit-ins occupying strategic places

in the capital were nevertheless dispersed after tear gas was fired.

The sit-ins are a means, not an end

," said a member of an Omdurman Resistance Committee, who said he wanted to avoid further violence.
