"I am very pleased to commit to the Mets," Wembanyama said in the statement.

Wembanyama, a versatile interior of 2.19 m at 18 years old, is very followed by the franchises of the North American Basketball Championship (NBA).

He plans to participate in the 2023 Draft, of which he could be the first choice, unheard of for a French player.

After a year in Lyon-Villeurbanne, crowned champion of France at the end of June for the third season in a row, Wembanyama returns to Ile-de-France, his region of birth since he was born in Chesnay (Yvelines) and was trained in Chesnay-Versailles club, before joining Nanterre in 2019 and making his debut in the French Championship there.

Last summer, Wembanyama won the silver medal with the France under-19 team at the 2021 World Cup: the Blues lost in the final by two points against the Americans (83-81 ).

In 2019, he finished 2nd in the Under-16 Euro.
