The president of a rowing club did not hesitate to save two men in difficulty on Lake Annecy (Haute-Savoie), Thursday evening.

The two castaways were on board a sailboat which had capsized under the effect of strong gusts of wind and a violent hailstorm which had hit the area.

Despite the rain, they were seen by members of the club, says

The head of the association, aged 44, jumped aboard a motor boat moored on the spot and headed for the two people who had fallen into the water.

"Death Up Close"

He managed to take the sixty-year-old and his thirty-year-old son on board, without capsizing in turn, despite the raging elements and the current.

The rescue took about half an hour.

“Without you, we were drowning, we saw death up close,” assured the youngest of the navigators to his rescuer.

He refuses to be called a hero.
