Uppsala is no stranger to Oksana Dudarko who works as a researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

This is the third time she is here - but Oksana would rather go home.

Despite the fact that the hometown of Borodyanka, located near Kyiv, has been hit hard by the war, it does not stop the homesickness.

- I love Ukraine and want to return even though it looks like it does, she says.

Every tenth returns

According to the Swedish Migration Agency, 55,000 Ukrainians have come to Sweden in 2022, of which at least 5,000 have returned.

In Uppsala County, there are 1,015 Ukrainian citizens registered in the Swedish Migration Board's reception system, but exactly how many of them have returned is unknown.

Oksana Dudarko planned to travel home in August so that her 10-year-old daughter could start fifth grade at home in Borodyanka, but new attacks on Kyiv stop the plans.

- It's impossible to go home, it's way too dangerous right now.
