At least five people have been killed and 49 others injured in a series of earthquakes in Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz in southern Iran.



A 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred around 2 am local time today (2nd), followed by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake 24 times until this morning.



In 2003, a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran killed 31,000 people, and in 1990 a 7.4-magnitude earthquake in northern Iran killed 40,000.
