The World Health Organization calls on Europe to take “urgent” action to reduce the increase in monkeypox infections

The World Health Organization called on Friday for "urgent action" to curb the outbreak of monkeypox in Europe, with the number of infected people increasing threefold two weeks ago in the mentioned continent.

In a statement, the organization’s regional director called on European countries to “intensify their efforts in the coming weeks and months to avoid the endemicity of monkeypox in a larger geographical area,” noting that Europe has recorded more than 4,500 confirmed cases, or 90% of the infections counted in the world since mid-May.
