From the first of July, a new law change will take effect, which means that the municipalities will be responsible for providing housing to those in need of protection from Ukraine.
This is the first time the EU Mass Refugee Directive has been applied and according to Giovanni Rojas, who is an integration developer at the County Administrative Board in Jönköping County, a change in the law has taken place unusually quickly.
Four-week period
Before, it was the Migration Board's responsibility, but now the authority will start directing those in need of protection from Ukraine to municipalities around the country.
Each municipality has a number of people that the agency has calculated that the municipality will be able to receive.
After the Swedish Migration Agency assigns people to a municipality, the municipality has four weeks to provide housing.
What should it be for housing?
- The accommodation they are to provide must be dignified accommodation.
They should work in everyday life, you should be able to cook or have access to food, there should be a roof over your head and it should be quiet so that the children can study, says Giovanni Rojas.
Forecast for the year
At the moment, 725 people in need of protection from Ukraine live in Jönköping County and the Swedish Migration Agency's forecast is that another 1,014 people will be assigned to the county's municipalities.
