• The Palombe bridge spans the railway tracks and now connects the Amédée-Saint-Germain and Armagnac districts.

  • With 20 meters wide, it will give pride of place to pedestrians, bicycles and buses, to the detriment of the car which will only circulate on one lane.

  • Residents of the Sacré-Coeur sector were invited to the event to demand the maintenance of a two-hectare green space, which must be reduced in favor of housing.

It was to be essentially a question of a bridge that connects two districts.

We will have finally talked a lot, too, about concrete, green spaces and quality of life in these territories around the station.

Residents of the Sacré-Coeur district located at the foot of the bridge took advantage of the inauguration to demonstrate and demand “less concrete” in the Euratlantique sector.

The inauguration of the Pont de la Palombe in Bordeaux, a 200 m long work of art between the Amédée-Saint-Germain and Armagnac districts, was disrupted this Friday by residents of the Sacré-Coeur sector, located between the Saint -Jean and rue de Bègles, who came to demand “less concrete and more greenery”.

"A very strong demand for green spaces"

"We want to save a green space of two hectares, which we want to reduce to build new buildings at R+7 and R+11" denounces Fanny Lainé, a resident of the district.

Some 400 housing units and the SNCF headquarters are to be built there.

"In southern Bordeaux, we have less than 4 m2 of green space per inhabitant compared to 18 m2 on the scale of Bordeaux, underlines this resident again, these constructions of extreme density and violence, it is no longer possible.

»

Mayor Pierre Hurmic underlined having obtained from the Public Development Establishment (EPA) Euratlantique to preserve one hectare of green space in this district.

“Local residents say it's not enough, it's never enough.

There is a very strong demand for local green spaces.

I think there is still room for improvement, that everything is not fixed.

The director of the EPA, Valérie Lasek, recalled for her part that the garden of the Ars, with a dimension of 8 ha but which will make 16 ha when it is completed, was inaugurated not far from , on June 25.

A new generation bridge

In the meantime, this new bridge which crosses the railway tracks, finally makes it possible to connect the two districts, separated by this real railway river.

“What is also important, underlines the architect Marc Mimran, is that this bridge is a major public space.

The part for buses, pedestrians and bicycles is the most important, the bridge leaving only one lane for cars, which is very rare.

»

Analysis shared by Pierre Hurmic: “It's a new generation bridge, which gives pride of place to soft mobility, which corresponds to our vision of urban development.

As such, another bridge will also be emblematic of a new generation, it is the Simone-Veil bridge, I can't wait for it to open.

It will be wide, pleasant to live in, convivial.

»

The double lane reserved for buses will accommodate Lianes 11 (Martignas/Villenave-d'Ornon) and the line between the Ambès peninsula and the campus, while the double lane reserved for bicycles will meet REVE standards (Réseau vélo express ).

The bridge will initially open to pedestrians and cyclists this Friday at 4 p.m., before opening to vehicles from Friday.
