Heavy alcohol impregnation could explain the unpredictable fury of a British passenger on a train from Marseille to Toulouse on Thursday.
The 57-year-old man was walking in a train when, suddenly, he threw himself on another passenger, first slapping him, then punching him.
The assault occurred, under the gaze of other travelers, shortly before 8 p.m. and the arrival of the train in Matabiau custody.
Railway police officers were waiting for the 50-year-old on the platform.
He was placed in a drunk tank and was still in custody on Friday.
His victim is 59 years old.
