The State of Qatar announced a contribution of $60 million to support the Lebanese army, and Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati praised Doha's support for his country.

Mikati stressed, during his meeting with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani in Beirut, that Lebanon appreciates Qatar's support for it.

Mikati added that the Qatari support is appreciated by the Lebanese, and will help the country to overcome the difficult stage it is going through.

The Qatari Foreign Minister also met with the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun, in his office in Yarzeh, east of Beirut, according to a statement by the Lebanese army.

The statement said that the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister affirmed his country's continued support for the Lebanese army.

Later, the commander of the Lebanese army - in a statement - thanked the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, "for his kind gesture towards the Lebanese army."

Aoun praised this "valuable initiative that reflects Qatar's commitment to Lebanon, its people and its army," noting that Qatar "has always been a pioneer in standing by Lebanon, especially the army."

Yesterday, Thursday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani arrived at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut to participate in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers that will be held in Lebanon tomorrow, Saturday.

In July last year, Qatar announced that it would support the Lebanese army with 70 tons of food per month for a year.
