BGL board spokesman Dirk Engelhardt nevertheless considers it to be the right step to at least optimize the utilization of existing parking spaces.

To this end, the federal Autobahn GmbH wants to equip the 150 service areas, each with more than 50 truck parking spaces, with parking space detectors.

At the Medenbach-Ost service area on the A3 near Wiesbaden, the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Oliver Luksic (FDP), put a 400,000-euro pilot system into operation on Thursday.
