“During the inspection of pre-trial detention center No. 12 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Moscow, members of the PMC found Alexander Butnara and Denis Grozava in the punishment cells,” said a member of the commission, noting that the administration of the detention center did not explain the reasons for their placement in these premises.

At the same time, the human rights activist clarified that the beds of prisoners who are in the punishment cell for violations of the internal regulations are fastened to the wall during the daytime, but Butnaru and Grozavu use them.

“In Moscow pre-trial detention centers, punishment cells are used this way if a citizen asks to be placed in a so-called “safe place”, separately from other prisoners, but Butnaru and Grozavu claim that such requests were not addressed to the administration.

They also stated that they were not given household equipment for cleaning the cells and expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the bathrooms,” the PMC representative added.

Earlier, RT reported that on August 6, 2021, five prisoners escaped from the IVS IVS: Alexander Mavridi, Alexander Butnaru, Nikolay Teterya, Ivan Turcanu and Denis Grozavu.

Mavridi was convicted for the November 2020 murder of Vyacheslav Marugov, owner of the Meat Empire company.

The rest of the fugitives were convicted of theft.

All of them were found and returned to custody.

Butnaru was found on August 18, 2021, Grozav and Tsurkanu on August 11, Nikolay Teterya on August 12, and Mavridi on September 13.
