“The correctional center contains those sentenced to forced labor.

They serve the departmental houses of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Moscow, work in the State Budgetary Institution "Zhilischnik", as auxiliary workers at construction sites.

15 people are employed in the metro as electricians and cleaners,” the human rights activist said.

According to the administration of the center, the salary of convicts is from 23 thousand rubles, but they receive 12 thousand rubles each, so 10-20% is deducted to pay off the damage caused by crimes.

Another part is withheld as payment for the utility costs of the correctional center itself.

The correctional center is a new two-story building, more like a hostel, Melnikov noted.

It consists of sleeping quarters with bunk beds for ten people.

Showers and toilets are equipped with doors for privacy.

“In the center you can cook your own food.

For this, there is a kitchen equipped with stoves, there are all necessary utensils, refrigerators and a room for eating,” Melnikov said.

According to him, the center also has rooms for drying and ironing clothes.

The residents of the center can move around the city on their own, some do it in their own cars and spend the night at home.

But for violators of the order there is a room that looks like a punishment cell.

Beds are not allowed there during the day.

“They are placed there for any administrative offense, even for crossing the street on a red light.

After that, the court decides whether the citizen will remain in the correctional center or go to serve the rest of the term in the colony,” the human rights activist explained.
