The circumstances of the drama become clearer, after the death of a young woman of 18 years in circumstances hitherto very vague.

A forty-year-old, seen pushing his daughter from the Saint-Nazaire bridge, was taken into custody, announced the city prosecutor's office, which opened an investigation for intentional homicide.

Two soldiers from the gendarmerie on leave, who were on the bridge on Tuesday afternoon, saw "a vehicle stop in front of them from which a man and a young girl were getting out, heading for the railing of the bridge", indicated the Saint-Nazaire prosecutor Sylvie Canovas-Lagarde in a press release sent on Wednesday.

“They saw the man throwing her into the void,” she added.

The Saint-Nazaire bridge, which spans the Loire estuary, culminates at 68 meters above sea level.

The man, born in 1977, "marked his intention to jump from the bridge, a gesture interrupted by the soldiers", according to the same source.

The young girl, born in 2004, succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation established that it was a father and his daughter.

The investigations "now tend to establish the circumstances of the acting out and to specify the family environment", specifies the prosecution.
