“It is expected that one of these days the presidents of the two countries will have a telephone conversation and work out agreements with the likely organization of an official visit to Moscow,” the Daily Mirror said in a statement.
In addition, Rajapaksa plans to pay a visit to the UAE to discuss fuel imports.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe said earlier that the country is in dire need of fuel and may be forced to import oil from Russia.
Currently, the state is trying to establish supplies from the Middle East.
