Mexican pilot Hugo Gutierrez converted to Islam in order to marry the woman he loved, and became a Muslim on his own earlier this week.
Gutierrez and Rawan al-Bakri - who met in Kuwait - decided to marry, according to Turkish media.
The couple came to the city of Izmit, the capital of the state of Kocaeli in northwestern Turkey, where the Bakri family lives, and Gutierrez converted to Islam by learning about this religion and learning about its teachings.
According to a video broadcast by Turkish media, the Mexican pilot gave the two testimonies in the presence of the Mufti of Izmit, Sheikh Muhammad Rashad Shafli, and a number of witnesses.
The Mufti presented the Mexican pilot with the Holy Qur'an, and hugged him, saying, "You have become a brother to us, and we will embrace you."
The Presidency of Religious Affairs in Izmit published a number of photos during the Mexican pilot's conversion to Islam, on its Facebook page last Monday.
