Marion Poschmann is Bergen's new city clerk.

The poet and writer, who was born in Essen in 1969, writes "full of verve and thoughtfulness", according to the jury's statement.

She studied German, philosophy, Slavic studies and scenic writing and made her debut in 2002 with the novel "Baden bei Gewitter" and the volume of poetry "Verschlosse Kammern".

Since then she has published numerous volumes of poetry and prose, which have made her one of the most respected German authors.

Her novels "The Position of the Sun" and "The Pine Islands" were shortlisted for the German Book Prize, and she received the Hölty Prize for her poetry.

Most recently, she published the essay "Laubwerk", for which she was awarded the Crespo Foundation's Speaking Literature Prize in 2021.

The City Writer's Prize, which was awarded for the first time in 1974 by the then still independent city of Bergen-Enkheim, is endowed with 20,000 euros and one year's right to live in the City Writer's House.

It will be presented to Poschmann on September 2nd.
