The Ortdrivaren neighborhood is located in central Kiruna and is part of LKAB's decommissioning plan, which was created due to the mine's expansion.
Over the weekend, the house known as the Berlin Wall was vandalized by someone or someone breaking windows and entering four apartments and smashing the interior.
"Does not feel good as it looks"
The Berlin Wall is one of four buildings that have been designed by Ralph Erskine and given Kiruna its classic skyline.
- It does not feel good as it looks now.
It has only been a few months since they started emptying the area and already now it looks like a war zone, what will it look like in nine to ten months?
says Sten Nyhlén (SJVP) chairman of the environment and building committee.
Concerns ahead of the festival
Now Sten Nyhlén (SJVP) hopes that LKAB, which is a property owner, will take its responsibility and fence in the area because people will still live in the old Kiruna center for a few more years.
The plan from LKAB is for the Ortdrivare block to be demolished during the autumn of 2023.
- I think you should meet Olle at the gate and make sure that the area is fenced in so that it can not be broken glass.
Because it is glass shattering that makes you invite others to continue shattering windows.
