Statistics issued by the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank revealed that the number of blood donors in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi since the beginning of the year has reached about 25 thousand and 600 donors, who contributed to providing 44,000 units of blood, while the total number of donors during the past five years reached nearly 200 thousand donors who contributed to improving Save the lives of nearly 400,000 people.

In detail, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, the regulator of the health care sector in the emirate, honored 46 permanent blood donors in Abu Dhabi and 20 entities that support blood bank services in appreciation of their contributions to promoting the health and safety of society by providing the necessary blood units to those in need, enabling patients to access them and saving the lives of millions of people. People, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Secretary-General of the Arab Fund for Disaster and Crisis Response, and Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Health Department.

This came during a ceremony held today by "Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Services", one of the strategic projects of the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, which aims to continue to advance the health and safety of all members of society and ensure the provision of health care in accordance with international best practices, which is managed by the health company of Pure Health. In the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, His Excellency Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Health Department, and a number of senior representatives of a group of institutions supporting blood donation campaigns.

The ceremony witnessed the attendance of more than 200 participants and aimed to highlight the importance of blood donation and its role in saving the lives of many members of society.

During the opening ceremony speech, the Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, Dr. Jamal Muhammad Al Kaabi, said: “In 2021, the blood bank services in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi opened a new blood donation center and added a mobile blood donation unit in the Al Dhafra region, and conducted more than 500 blood donation campaigns. More than 28,000 donors participated, through which more than 53,700 blood units were collected, and 20 institutions were honored for their support of blood donation programmes.


During the ceremony, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi called on all members of society who have never donated blood and who are healthy enough to contribute to this noble humanitarian work by donating to support the health care system to achieve its goals based on ensuring the safety and health of all.

For his part, the Director of the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank in the Al Ain region, Dr. Hamad Al Nuaimi, said: “We all have to realize the great positive effects of voluntary blood donation and highlight its many benefits and its role in enriching social solidarity and cohesion. We renew our thanks to the donors and continue to highlight the importance of commitment throughout year to donate blood to contribute to maintaining adequate supplies and providing the possibility of blood transfusion in safe and timely conditions for those in need.

In turn, Salma Suhail Al Khaili, a blood donor for more than 15 years, said: "Blood donation is a humanitarian act that I have been keen to do for years because it contributes to saving many lives and has great benefits to health, and it is an image that embodies the values ​​of giving and benevolence that we were raised on and learned from the father."
