Witness Cassidy Hutchinson was working at the time as an assistant to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

When questioned by Congress on Tuesday, she revealed new grave details about Donald Trump's actions on January 6.

Under oath, she said the president knew some of his supporters were carrying weapons.

Despite warnings from the security services that violence could occur, Trump is said to have ordered weapons detectors removed from the area where he was to speak in Washington DC.

"He was angry that armed supporters were not allowed in," said Hutchinson, who reportedly overheard Trump say something like he did not care that they had weapons and were not there to harm him.

Tried to take the wheel

Trump himself dismisses the testimony and calls Hutchinson "a total scam" on his new social media platform.

According to the witness, Trump must have insisted on following his supporters as they marched towards the Capitol.

When he was told that it was not safe and that he had to return to the White House, he must have become very angry, and tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential car.

"I'm damn president, take me to the Capitol now," Trump is said to have said, according to Hutchinson.

Anxiety before the attack

Already days before the riot, White House staffers are said to have worried that Trump would break the law by trying to stop the congressional process on January 6.

When staff and family members during the storm asked the president to urge supporters to abstain, he refused.

When the rebels then chanted that Vice President Mike Pence should be hanged, Trump, according to Hutchinson's testimony, said that "he deserved it."

Around the same time, he published a tweet that Pence "did not have the courage to do what needed to be done," writes the Washington Post.

During the storm, Pence is said to have been within twelve meters of the rebels, writes the New York Times.

According to Hutchinson, by the time the violence ceases, Trump will have stood by his support for it.
