SANA: Syria has decided to recognize the independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics

This is reported by the SANA agency with reference to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.

“By embodying the common will and desire to improve relations in all areas, the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of both the Luhansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the ministry said in a statement.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on Russia's recognition of the independence of the LNR and the DNR.

As specified in the Foreign Ministry, it recognizes the LPR and DPR within the borders according to the results of the 2014 referendums.

DPR Foreign Minister Natalya Nikonorova suggested that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad consider participating in an international tribunal for Ukrainian war criminals.
