The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, in partnership with the Government of Dubai Media Office, organized an interactive session on the topic of “media management of strategic crises”, in the presence of representatives of the media offices of the emirates of the state, and directors of security media departments at the state level, as part of a series of workshops and interactive sessions that will be organized by the authority And the office to share experiences and successful experiences between the parties concerned with crisis management at the federal and local levels, and to review successful models for managing emergency situations. The first session focused on reviewing the case study of the Jebel Ali port fire.

The Vice-President of the authority, Obaid Rashid Al-Hussan Al Shamsi, gave a detailed explanation of the work mechanisms of the various teams of the authority in dealing with crises of all kinds and levels, stressing the importance of developing appropriate strategies to deal with crises and emergency situations proactively.

He pointed to the importance of activating patterns of strategic thinking, constantly being vigilant and aware, and developing proactive scenarios to avoid crises, and control them if they occur, through developed plans that were trained by specialized work teams, which contributes to not being drawn into later implementation of the reaction plan.

He also shed light on managing the features of the strategic environment for crises through adaptation, agility, unification of efforts, integration, compatibility, clarity and a good understanding of crises.

He added: "The UAE enjoys a global position, and we always need to produce strategic plans and programs that simulate the strategic management of crises, activate patterns of strategic thinking, and study the reality well so that we can clarify appropriate plans to deal with emergency situations in an integrated manner."

The Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office, Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, praised the authority’s great efforts in addressing exceptional situations within the framework of its mission to enhance the security and stability of society and to confirm the full readiness to deal efficiently with such situations through cooperation and coordination with various concerned agencies at the state level, noting The central and effective role played by the authority during the response to the “Covid-19” pandemic, as it represented the umbrella for the efforts of the various concerned federal and local authorities.

She pointed to the great importance of developing scenarios and scenarios for various crises, and defining a strategy to deal with them, if any of them occurred, stressing that "this procedure represents the essence of successful media handling of any emergency situation," and said: "Successful media management of crises of a strategic nature depends on several axes, The most important of which is the dissemination of accurate and reliable information very quickly whenever possible as a basic requirement to avoid rumors and false news, which usually exacerbate the negative effects of such cases due to the incorrect image that is transmitted to the public.

She added: "The typical media management of crises plays a pivotal role in trapping its consequences and preventing the situation from worsening if it is not contained in the media, through two main axes, the first of which is the actual dealing with the crisis on the ground by the teams and parties concerned with it, and the second is crisis management in terms of media.”

During the session, Salem Balioha, Director of Media Services Department at the Government of Dubai Media Office, gave a detailed presentation of a case study on the Jebel Ali Port fire, which broke out in July last year, and the mechanism of work of the various media teams, starting from information gathering, coordination and communication, to broadcasting data and tweets.
