Now the place is being built where both fish and people can gather in Västerås

- Here we will build a fauna passage and next door we will also build a large wooden deck which will hopefully be a nice place for people to be, says Susanna Hansen who is the water coordinator in Västerås.

The finest spawning environments for red-listed fish species such as aspen and eel are located up by Åkesta.

But today they can not swim further than to the Falkenberg mill.

Therefore, the municipality has decided to build another fauna passage adjacent to the mill.

A building that will be ready in the spring of 2023.

And the bill?

The total cost for the construction of all fauna passages and the associated recreation area lands at SEK 40 million.

Both fauna passages in Västerås are part of the EU project LIFE IP Rich Waters.
