On Monday afternoon, the Christian Democrats' party leader Ebba Busch held a press conference regarding the right to abortion in Sweden.

Among other things, Ebba Busch criticized Magdalena Andersson and claimed that the Prime Minister should have indicated that there are "political forces" that want to repeal Swedish abortion legislation.

Ebba Busch also produced an "abortion contract" which she invited all party leaders in the Swedish Parliament to sign.

By signing the contract, they promise to stand behind Swedish abortion legislation - and to defend it if it should come under attack, she explains.

Hallengren open to suggestions

The Liberals, the Center Party, the Moderates and the Green Party have also announced that they want to see a constitutional amendment to protect Swedish abortion law.

Now the Swedish Minister of Social Affairs says that she is open to such a proposal.

- We are open to the question of abortion law being included in the constitutional inquiry during the next term of office.

What does that mean?

- It involves extensive work, an extensive parliamentary process in which all parties participate.

- We Social Democrats have always stood up for the woman's right to decide on her own body and the right to free abortion, says Hallengren.

French criticism

France was one of the US allies condemning the court decision, a decision that President Emmanuel Macron called a threat to women's freedom.

Over the midsummer weekend, Aurore Berge, party leader of Macron's Republican Party, proposed a bill to make abortion law part of the French constitution.

Now the Swedish parliamentary parties are heading towards the same idea.
