Dubai Central Laboratory develops a test to detect fake amber

The Dubai Central Laboratory of the Dubai Municipality announced the development of an examination for the detection of gemstones, precious metals and amber stone treated with plastic.


Specialists in the laboratory developed various tests using laser technology that enable analysts to detect treated amber and distinguish it from untreated, with the aim of informing consumers of the quality of what they buy from this type of gemstone, and knowing the types of treatment that occurred on the amber, such as heat or treating its cavities with plastic.


The Dubai Central Laboratory makes many contributions to the development of tests, in order to meet the needs of dealers in various fields, such as: examining consumables and goods, food, examining the efficiency and safety of electrical devices, in addition to examining building materials.


Dubai Municipality stressed the importance of research and studies conducted by the laboratory in developing examinations and increasing their efficiency, by innovating advanced and modern examination methods, in order to enhance the values ​​of the municipality by supporting a culture of sustainable innovation in keeping pace with changes and achieving the leadership of the cities of the future.


It is noteworthy that the Gemological Institute of America had published a research for the Dubai Central Laboratory represented by the Gemological and Precious Metal Examination Laboratory in the context of the detection of gemstones, precious metals and amber stone treated with plastic.
