It had been two years since the two men had met, since
the arrest of Vital Kamerhe
in April 2020, arrested and sentenced for embezzlement of public funds within the framework of the so-called hundred days program.
Barely acquitted, the former chief of staff and ally of President Tshisekedi was received by him.
Asked about the content of this meeting, Vital Kamerhe indicated that it had been a question of partnership – which the two men intend to strengthen, he specified – through their respective parties, the UNC and the UDPS.
His statement at the end of this meeting at the microphone of the Congolese press.
It was also the joy of finding a political partner.
Whatever hardship we endure, this hardship must be below what we are determined to give to the nation, to the fatherland, to the community.
this is where we will win.
Not a word about the presidential election next year
According to Vital Kamerhe, the challenges facing the country were also discussed, particularly security in the east of the country.
Officially, not a word about the presidential election, to be held next year and for which several candidates have already declared themselves.
But according to several observers, it is obvious that for the Head of State, it is a question of securing the support of Vital Kamerhe and that he will not himself be a presidential candidate.
Vital Kamerhe will be essential to win over the electorate in the east of the country, in particular the province of South Kivu, where he is from.
