The Assembly "has the face of France" and "the French urge us to work together, to debate rather than fight", while the macronists only have a relative majority, pressed the new president immediately after. her election, in front of her husband and five children in the gallery.

It only took two rounds on Tuesday to elect Ms. Braun Pivet by an absolute majority, after the RN candidate Sébastien Chenu withdrew his candidacy and the Lepenist deputies then decided to abstain.

A good omen for the legislature which opens?

However, the difficulties should not be long in coming for the relative majority of the macronie, always looking for goodwill from the opposition to find "compromises" in the absence of an increasingly illusory coalition.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, continues her consultations with the leaders of the parliamentary groups in the National Assembly by receiving successively at Matignon André Chassaigne (PCF), Mathilde Panot (LFI) then the leader of the RN deputies, Marine Le Pen, finally the "independents" Bertrand Pancher and Christophe Naegelen.

The day before, the boss of the LR group, Olivier Marleix, had opened the ball, reaffirming his opposition to "any coalition whatsoever", while recognizing "being able to work together" on "a certain number of texts", in particular "the question of purchasing power".

Reinforced by Emmnanuel Macron in her role as majority leader, Elisabeth Borne must formulate proposals for the end of the week "for a roadmap" and the composition of a new government scheduled for early July.

Taunted - including in the majority - for appearing too "technocratic" and not "political" enough, the Prime Minister intends to bounce back on the proposal to constitutionalize the right to abortion by going in the morning to the headquarters of Family Planning, fervent advocate for abortion rights.

The Head of State for his part continues a diplomatic marathon, overlooking national considerations: after the G7 summit in Germany, he is expected Wednesday morning in Madrid at the NATO summit.

"Respect traditions"

At the National Assembly, the day of Wednesday promises to be calm before the storm.

The deputies can now be counted after joining one of the ten parliamentary groups on Tuesday evening.

Renaissance (ex-La République en Marche) has 172 deputies including 4 related parties, the MoDem 48, Horizons 30 including 2 related parties, the RN 90 including one related party, LR 61, LFI 75, the PCF and its overseas allies 22, the PS 31 , ecologists 23 and the group "Freedoms, independents, overseas, territories" 16.

The presidential majority can therefore count on 250 deputies, still far from the 289 of the absolute majority.

The lower house must now elect its six vice-presidents, three quaestors and twelve secretaries.

But it is above all towards the election of the powerful chairman of the Finance Committee, scheduled for Thursday, that all eyes are on.

Reserved for a member of the opposition, it is the subject of as much covetousness as speculation - even negotiations.

It should be played between the LFI deputy Eric Coquerel, who counts on the votes of the whole of Nupes (in addition to the mélenchonistes, the PS, the PCF, EELV) and the RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy, in search of allies to the right.

Elisabeth Borne promised last week that the majority "would respect traditions" and would not take part in the ballot, leaving the opposition to organize itself.

A decree from the Head of State convening parliament in extraordinary session and setting the texts that will be examined is expected "in the coming hours", Ms. Borne also specified in a letter addressed to the heads of parliamentary groups, referring to the measures in favor of purchasing power and the amending finance bill.
