It all started with a ring, sold for 13 euros online but its new owner was charged 13,000 euros and the color of which she has never seen.

She was the victim of a well-established scam and set up from scratch by an unscrupulous Toulousain.

Since 2019, he regularly put items up for sale on sites like Le Bon Coin or eBay, had checks sent to him by buyers and, upon receipt, cashed them after taking care to add a few zeros.

He didn't even bother to send the purchased item.

After a first complaint in the course of last year, the police officers of the "general investigation" group of the Toulouse departmental security managed to trace the trail of the scammer because the latter was using his own bank account.

And they identified about twenty victims who wanted to buy a computer, a Pokémon card or even a gold coin.

In total, the damage amounts to nearly 55,000 euros.

Summoned to the police station on Tuesday, he was taken into custody and brought to justice.
