Zakharova commented on the reduction of the scope of the unanimity rule in the EU

She recalled Borrell's statement in which he spoke of the need, as the EU expands, to reduce the scope of the unanimity rule in foreign policy and other areas in order to make more decisions by qualified majority votes.

“This is liberal totalitarianism.

Either everyone is in favor, or the decision will still be made, ”Zakharova wrote in her Telegram.

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, previously supported proposals for reforming the EU, in particular the abolition of the principle of unanimous vote in making key decisions. 

Experts note that this will lead to increased discontent among the less wealthy countries of the union, whose national interests run counter to the core of the EU.
