The meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg, which was scheduled to be held today (29th) at 1 am our time and at 6 pm local time in Madrid, Spain, was postponed.

The presidential office explained that the delay was due to the longer-than-expected four-party talks between Finland, Sweden, Turkey, and NATO Secretary-General, which started before the meeting.

Finland and neighboring Sweden, which border Russia, abandoned their decades-long neutrality policy and decided to join NATO after Russia invaded Ukraine.

According to NATO rules, a new member can be accepted only if the existing member countries agree unanimously.

Turkiye is said to be questioning Finland and Sweden's tolerance for the Kurdish people, the secessionist and independent Kurds of Turkiye.
