According to Stefan Åsberg, there are several factors that have led to the current situation.

Among other things, the special "health law", which was introduced by then-President Trump during the corona pandemic.

The law meant that everyone who crossed the border was immediately sent back to Mexico, which created extreme situations when large numbers of migrants gathered in the border cities.

- Now it has been so long that many have run out of money and they have become desperate, says Stefan Åsberg, foreign correspondent.

Wants to tear up the law

The fact that President Biden has spoken out about tearing up the law has therefore led many migrants to try their luck and risk their lives at the border.

- But really, nothing has changed.

The wall has ceased, but everything else is the same.

Large flows of migrants move through South and Latin America and far from all are even close to the American border.

According to the newspaper El País, Colombia, among other places, has received millions of refugees from Venezuela and about 10 percent of the population in Costa Rica now consists of migrants, mainly from Nicaragua.
