Jordanian Prime Minister: Life is back to normal in Aqaba

Jordanian Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh confirmed today, Tuesday, that things in the city of Aqaba "have become safe and under control, and life has returned to normal."

The Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted Al-Khasawneh as saying, during his inspection today of the site of a toxic gas leak in one of the ports of Aqaba, that the movement of ports and navigation has fully resumed, as the border port operates regularly.

Al-Khasawneh stressed that the general situation in Aqaba is under full control, and there are no dangers from chlorine gas concentrations.

He stressed that life in Aqaba is completely safe, and all the competent authorities have confirmed the safety of the air and air from any traces of gas, adding that "life has returned to its normal course, and we are standing this morning at the site of the accident without any measures or precautions or even wearing masks."

He pointed out that all the security and precautionary cordons that were put in place yesterday evening have been removed, noting that the number of injured in hospitals is constantly decreasing, and they are leaving successively after recovery.

Al-Khasawneh stated that he assigned the Minister of Interior to head a team to investigate the incident, find out its causes and ways to prevent it from recurring.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs, the official spokesman for the Jordanian government, Faisal Shboul, said that the death toll from the gas leak rose to 13 people, and 130 people were still being treated in Aqaba hospitals.
