It's the end of the G7 summit in Germany, culminating in the war in Ukraine.

“

Russia cannot and must not win and therefore our support for Ukraine and our sanctions against Russia will continue as long as necessary

 ,” said Emmanuel Macron.

No more question for him of sparing the susceptibility of Russia, and of leaving the door open to dialogue, explains

Daniel Vallot

, one of our special envoys in Bavaria.

The French president shows total support for Ukraine, in unison with his G7 partners: “

The aggression launched by Russia on Ukrainian soil has one objective: the surrender of Ukraine.

This is not called a negotiation and therefore we will continue to sanction, to support Ukraine and its people to obtain either a complete victory for Ukraine or the possibility, in the terms and at the time that will be chosen by the Ukrainians of carry out the negotiation which will be theirs.

Fear for cereals

Another concern of the G7 countries identified by

Daniel Vallot

, the influence of the war in Ukraine on the energy and cereals market.

Emmanuel Macron insists on this point: we must find solutions to get cereals out of Ukraine, despite the blockade of the Black Sea.

“

The next few weeks will be critical, because the challenge is to be able to release these volumes to go to the countries that need them most and before there is a new harvest and there the harvests arrive in Ukraine, which will require full use of its storage capacities.

To deal with the looming food crisis, the G7 countries are asking exporting countries not to hold onto their stocks and are committing to funding up to 14 billion dollars this year to combat food insecurity.

Unit Messages

The member countries of the Atlantic Alliance must maintain the course of solidarity with Ukraine and cohesion with Russia, the French president also declared before leaving Bavaria to fly to Spain where is organized this NATO summit.

Another challenge for the G7 is to show that it does not exclude other countries.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also took stock of the summit and insists that the seven most industrialized countries in the world have not remained an exclusive club.

According to him, they have shown, by inviting different countries of the South, that the democracies are united and act together: "

The G7 countries act united as in the case of the Russian invasion in Ukraine (...) But it is equally important to coordinate with the rest of the world.

This is why we have invited partners here, Indonesia and India, who are leading the G20 this year and next year, but also South Africa, Senegal and Argentina.

This is one of the strongest signals from this summit: democracies around the world, not just the G7 countries, stand together.
