Now, at airports, passenger terminals, and convenience stores, you can verify your identity on a smartphone app without a physical resident registration card.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced today (28th) that it will pilot the 'Resident ID Card Mobile Verification Service' using the 'Government 24' Android app from the 29th.
It is a service that allows you to verify your identity by displaying your name, photo, resident registration number, address, issue date, resident registration institution, etc., on your smartphone screen along with a QR code without a physical resident registration card. If you use the resident registration card mobile verification service, it has the same effect as checking the real resident registration card.
You can use it when submitting civil documents or getting confirmation of your adult status, when checking the identity of a passenger at an airport, or when verifying your identity in a contract.
The resident registration card mobile verification service will be implemented in earnest on the 12th of the next month.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security plans to check for inconveniences with a pilot service, improve it, and stabilize the service.

From the second half of the year, you can check your resident registration card not only through the Government24 app but also through private platforms such as the PASS authentication app of the three mobile carriers.
To use the resident registration card mobile verification service, you must register (join) the service with your smartphone.
You can log in to the Government 24 app and go through simple procedures such as authentication and basic information input in the 'Resident ID Card Mobile Verification Service' menu.
The mobile verification service for the resident registration card minimizes the exposure of personal information on the main screen in consideration of privacy and security.
You can check the resident registration number and exact address on the detailed information screen after biometric authentication such as fingerprint or face.
To prevent theft, rental, or forgery, you can use only one smartphone under your name.
It lowers the risk of fraudulent use with functions such as screen capture blocking.
Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Security Han Chang-seop said, "If the mobile verification service for the resident registration card, which is a digital identity proof, is implemented, the inconvenience of having to carry a real resident registration card at all times will be eliminated and the risk of loss of the resident registration card will be lowered, which is expected to significantly reduce personal information leakage."Keywords:
