In Lyon, an 11-month-old baby died in a private nursery in the city last weekend.

A childcare assistant, unable to bear her crying, administered Destop to her.

She has since been charged and imprisoned.

But since his death, tongues are starting to loosen up: some parents denounce the dysfunctions in the crèches of the network, People&Baby, as well as a race for profit.

The shutters of the People&Baby crèche in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon are still closed.

Last week, one of the employees of this structure confessed to having killed an 11-month-old baby by giving him detergent.

This 27-year-old woman, with no criminal or psychiatric history, explained that she could no longer bear the crying of the little one.

She was charged and imprisoned.

A tragedy for all the parents of this network of crèches who had noticed that the management of the establishments had deteriorated.

850 nurseries across France

People&Baby is a network of 850 crèches throughout France, including around twenty in the city of Lyon alone.

Small structures, often accommodating only about ten children.

A year ago, Natacha enrolled her 15-month-old son in the P'tits Lyon crèche, close to the one where the tragedy occurred.

But next school year, it will be over.

According to her, despite the dedication of the staff, there are too many broken promises.

"We are very disappointed with the network. What they are selling is overstaffing, that is to say more people to look after our children than the minimum set by law. It's a lot of equipment, this are bilingual crèches, they are big educational projects. In fact, they recruit few people for reasons of means", she says.

"It's even the opposite and there is a lot of staff turnover."

"The staff seem overworked"

Paul denounces him other dysfunctions.

"The staff seem rather overworked. For example, before, cleaning was done for an hour in the evening by an external service provider. Today, it is the professionals who look after our children who do the cleaning... with our children !” he said indignantly.

"All things considered, it makes you think of what we saw in nursing homes. We feel that it's a big structure that wants to make money."

In the local press, some parents go even further and claim to have filed a complaint after the discovery of a trace of hand on the cheek of their 4-month-old child, which could look like a slap.

Contacted on Monday, the management of People&Baby did not respond to requests from Europe 1.
