At least 19 killed in building collapse in Mumbai, India

A four-storey apartment building in India's financial capital of Mumbai collapsed overnight, killing at least 19 people amid fears more people may be under the rubble, officials said Tuesday.

The civic body in charge of Mumbai said part of a building located in a busy downtown suburb collapsed around midnight on Monday.

Rescue workers were working to clear the debris until late Tuesday, when heavy rains hampered work.

Building collapses are common in Mumbai during the monsoon season, mostly due to not following proper construction procedures.
