What you need to know to connect your soundbar to your TV
There are several ways to connect a soundbar to your TV, and it mainly depends on its age and its compatibility with different technologies.
The simplest case is that of a television compatible with the ARC (Auto Return Channel) functionality.
This allows the TV to send sound back through the HDMI connection.
All that is needed in this case is to connect an HDMI cable between the TV on the HDMI IN ARC input and the TV OUT ARC port on the soundbar.
ARC functionality is relatively new and not all TVs are compatible.
For an older model, you must connect the HDMI cable between the HDMI IN input of the television and the TV OUT output of the sound bar, and connect an optical cable between the OPTICAL IN input of the bar and the OPTICAL OUT output of the TV.
Finally, for a TV that does not have either an HDMI ARC input or an optical input, some soundbars have an analog input, usually in 3.5mm mini jack format.
What are the differences between a home theater and a soundbar?
The sound bar and home cinema are two ways to add sound to your living room and enjoy an immersive experience with an HD or 4K television.
The soundbar is compact and integrated.
It can be accompanied by a subwoofer and wireless satellites, but generally all the speakers in the system are integrated into the bar, which therefore simulates surround sound by reflecting it off the walls or ceiling.
The advantage of a soundbar is that it takes up little space.
A home cinema offers an even more striking experience but also more complex to set up, because it requires placing the speakers in front, behind or even on the ceiling in the case of a Dolby Atmos installation.
On the other hand, despite the progress made by soundbars, the home cinema still offers the most immersive and realistic rendering.
