On Sunday evening, Västervik's star driver Fredrik Lindgren announced that he is taking a break from the speedway.

On his Facebook page, Lindgren, who has suffered from postcovid and depression in recent years, explained why.

“After consultation with a doctor, we have decided to put our competition season on pause for the next few weeks.

Last year ended for me prematurely after struggling with postcovid and its symptoms.

In recent weeks, these symptoms of Dyspnoea (shortness of breath, editor's note) have returned ", writes Fredrik Lindgren.

"Gets rid of world leaders"

For his club Västervik, the loss of their star driver is of course a major setback.

- Of course, if you get rid of a world driver like Fredrik Lindgren, it is clear that it affects all teams, but we must try to handle this as best we can, says the team leader for Västervik speedway Morgan Andersson.

In the post on Facebook, Fredrik Lindgren writes that he hopes to recover and that he wants to start competing again and end the season.

Lindgren competes for Västervik Speedway and also for the Polish team Częstochowa.

SVT Småland has sought Fredrik Lindgren for an interview.
