The Jordanian army said on Sunday that two pilots were killed after a Royal Air Force plane crashed in an empty area in Ramtha in Irbid Governorate, near the border with Syria.

According to a statement by the Jordanian army, the crash of the plane - a "Grob" type, came "as a result of a technical malfunction during a training tour" at nine o'clock in the morning Jordan time (six in the morning GMT).

The Jordanian army added, quoting a military source, "As a result of the fall of the plane, the pilot Pilot Bilal Mashhour Ahmad Al-Shofin and Captain Pilot Baha Muhammad Mustafa Abu Ghanmi were martyred, after they were transferred to the founding King Abdullah I University Hospital."
