A 15-year-old boy was shot dead on Sunday evening in an impoverished district of Arles in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, known for its drug trafficking, we learned Monday from police sources.

The victim, unknown to the police, was targeted by shots from a car around 10 p.m., in the Griffeuille district where the police had already intervened the previous weekend for shots, against a background of traffic drugs, according to the police.

Died in hospital

Rushed to hospital, the young man did not survive his injuries.

According to the police, a car with several people inside approached a group of four teenagers, and one of them, unknown to the police, was hit by gunfire.

The car from which the shots came was found burned in Saint-Martin de Crau, 20 kilometers from Arles.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Marseille.

Since the beginning of the year, 16 people have been shot dead, against a background of drug trafficking, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

If most of the traffic is concentrated in Marseille, the second largest city in France, other cities in the department are also affected, such as Arles (53,000 inhabitants).
