Lack of egg and sperm donors at Akademiska: "A health problem"

There is currently a shortage of donors of eggs and sperm at the Reproduction Center at Akademiska.

The background to the shortage is that there were far fewer donations during the pandemic.

Although donations continued to be received, they did not appear to the same extent.

- We only had seven in 2020 and we are usually around 20-30 on the sperm side, says Anne-Charlotte Dahl, department manager at the Reproduction Center.

Takes off the storage

She says that they have started to take away the stock without bringing in new donors - and now they want to prevent a more serious shortage.

- With long waiting times, it will of course be a great frustration.

These patients work towards an age limit to receive treatment and we of course want to help them as soon as possible, she says.
