On Friday, June 24, a wave of protests took place in US cities, caused by the decision of the country's Supreme Court on the right to abortion.

According to the American media, in several cities, spontaneous protests were dispersed by police forces.

In particular, according to the Associated Press, law enforcement agencies used tear gas to disperse the crowd at the Arizona State Capitol, located in the city of Phoenix.

According to The Hill, police forces have been mobilized to work to protect public order outside the US Supreme Court building in Washington.

According to media reports, the police leadership believes that increased work of law enforcement officers may be required until June 28.

According to the New York Post, the protesters sat on the pavement at a pedestrian crossing.

According to the publication, in response to the demand of the police to clear the roadway, some of the protesting women were naked.

Cases are also reported of spontaneous protesters throwing unidentified objects at police cars and climbing onto city buses.

Protests of similar scale took place in a number of other major American cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.

According to USA Today, rallies were also held in a number of American cities by activists opposing the legalization of abortion.

As the newspaper writes, in one of the cities in the state of Colorado there was a skirmish between supporters of the decision of the Supreme Court and its opponents.

Recall that the US Supreme Court overturned constitutional guarantees for abortions without restrictions from the state.

The decision followed a 1973 revision of Roe v. Wade, which gave women the right to have an abortion without government restrictions.

The new U.S. Supreme Court ruling says that from now on, the power to regulate abortions "returns to the people and their elected representatives."

It should be noted that Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas, who supported the decision on abortion, also spoke in favor of revising a number of other decisions of previous years, in particular those relating to the permission of same-sex marriages.

According to USA Today, small groups of protesters staged a picket directly outside the home of Judge Thomas.

According to CNN, shortly after the Supreme Court decision, authorities in at least seven states said they could ban abortion.

In a number of states, such as Kentucky, Louisiana and South Dakota, the ban came into effect automatically after the decision of the Supreme Court.

US President Joe Biden criticized the abortion decision, saying that automatic bans in a number of states would put women at risk.

According to the head of the White House, this decision "throws the United States back 150 years."

In turn, former US President Donald Trump spoke positively about the decision.

According to him, we are talking about "the greatest victory in life."

At the same time, the 45th head of the White House suggested that the decision on abortion was driven by his personnel appointments.
