TV journalist Agneta Gustavsson and filmmaker Rolf Magnusson found a story over 40 years old about a unique event by chance.

The glassworks in Orrefors went through an economic crisis.

- A little pointed, you could say that Saddam Hussein saved Orrefors glassworks.

He was the new president of Iraq, before becoming a notorious dictator.

Then he was a "good guy", says Agneta Gustavsson, producer of the film "Baghdad Crystals - the story of Orrefors and a fabulous hotel".

Wanted to impress the outside world

In 1982, the International Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was to be held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

President Hussein wanted to impress the outside world and the waiting guests.

The plans for a new hotel project of the highest luxury rank were implemented.

The order for the crystals to Orrefors alone can be converted to more than SEK 100 million in today's money value, says Agneta Gustavsson.

- It was in connection with another assignment that a former sharpener at the mill began to tell about the Baghdad crystals.

After hearing the whole story, I realized what a fantastic story, and we decided to make a film, says Agneta Gustavsson.

Shown at summer exhibition

The film will be shown at Pukeberg's summer exhibition until 6 August.

The exhibition also shows a film produced by the construction company Skanska, which was commissioned to build the luxury hotel in Baghdad.

In the clip above, Agneta shows one of the "Baghdad crystals" made in Orrefors for the luxury project in the Iraqi capital Baghdad in the 80's.
