"In the absence of sufficient charge", the custody of five people suspected of having stung participants during the Music Festival was lifted, AFP learned on Thursday.

In Asnières (Hauts-de-Seine), four people had been placed in police custody for aggravated violence and administration of harmful substances, the precise number of victims remaining to be determined.

These police custody "were lifted in the absence of sufficient charge", indicated the Nanterre prosecutor's office, contacted by AFP.

"Investigations are continuing to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators," added the prosecution.

In Versailles, the custody of a 37-year-old man suspected of having bitten two teenage girls aged 15 and 16 was also lifted, without charges being brought against him, according to the Versailles prosecutor's office.

The syringe could not be found. 

From January 1 to June 17, 1,004 complaints were filed for injections in France, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The precise number of victims remains to be determined.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, a total of eight people were arrested in France for similar facts during the Fête de la Musique.
