The forecast points to glorious midsummer weather in Jönköping County - but with that also comes some risks.

According to SMHI, the risk of forest fires is great or very great in the southern half of Sweden.

In the neighboring county of Kalmar, the fire risk is extremely high.

Therefore, from midsummer evening, MSB will have eight helicopters on 90-minute standby - two of them will be stationed in Jönköping.

The other six helicopters will be on standby in Luleå, Östersund and Västerås.

The helicopters are put on standby in places in the country where the risk of forest fires is greatest, and it is constantly being reconsidered, says Roger Gustafsson, project manager at MSB's operational department.

Even airplanes

In addition to reinforcements with helicopters, four so-called scooping aircraft will also be on standby at Skavsta Airport in Nyköping.

Roger Gustafsson says that if the local rescue service requests support from MSB, the helicopters and planes can be deployed at an early stage, which reduces the risk that the fires that occur grow into extensive and difficult-to-extinguish forest fires.

So far, no fire ban has been issued in Jönköping County, which, on the other hand, the neighboring county of Kronoberg will introduce from tomorrow Friday.
