Cairo -

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry denied the mistreatment of Libyans at the Salloum border crossing between the two countries, in response to a statement from the Libyan Foreign Ministry.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed that "the Egyptian government provides all means of care and good treatment for the Libyan brothers," calling for "the need to investigate the accuracy of the data transmitted regarding the conditions of the two countries' communities, in line with the specificity of Egyptian-Libyan relations."

This came in response to a statement by the Libyan Foreign Ministry, in which it stated that its agent, Muhammad Issa, had received the Chargé d'Affairs of the Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli, Tamer Mustafa, "to inform him of his dissatisfaction with the bad way in which Libyan citizens are treated during their entry and exit from Egyptian territory through the Salloum land port."

The Libyan diplomat, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday evening, Wednesday, described these acts as "disgraceful and individualistic, affecting their owner, and the Egyptian side may not be aware of them."

The Libyan Foreign Ministry quoted the Egyptian Chargé d'Affairs as "rejecting these shameful and reprehensible acts", while the Egyptian Foreign Ministry denied what its Libyan counterpart attributed to the Egyptian Chargé d'Affairs.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that its Libyan counterpart postponed a meeting in late May "on the conditions of the two countries' communities to overcome any obstacles."

And she added, "It is not surprising that some parties are trying to deal with inaccurate data, in an attempt to distract attention, especially with today's date, June 22, 2022, the date of the expiry of the road map of the Political Dialogue Forum and the mandate of the Libyan National Unity Government emanating from it."

The official spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, affirmed that his country continues its efforts to help the Libyan brothers restore security and stability in the country, leading to holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible, in a way that allows the brotherly Libyan people the free space to choose their national leaders who represent them. And enjoy his confidence in the legal framework.

And yesterday, Wednesday, the legal period on which the National Unity Government in Libya relied, headed by Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, expired, according to the outcomes of the Political Dialogue Forum, which set the duration of the transitional executive authority at 18 months, extending to June 22, 2022.

However, the Dabaiba government refuses to hand over power to the Fathi Bashagha government, which was granted confidence by the House of Representatives in early March, except through elections.
