His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, directed the reorganization of the Supreme National Committee to oversee the preparations for the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at its twenty-eighth session COP28, which is scheduled to be hosted in the UAE in 2023 in the city of Expo, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the membership of relevant authorities.

The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the UAE’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, was assigned the task of Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Committee. The committee includes in its membership a number of ministers and officials from various government sectors to ensure work according to a comprehensive approach aimed at coordinating and integrating efforts between the various sectors in The state at the strategic, diplomatic, political, economic, technical and organizational levels to prepare for COP 28.

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the formation of the Higher Committee reflects the importance the UAE attaches to climate action and the role of the Conference of the Parties in pushing and directing the course of climate negotiations between countries of the world, and creating equal opportunities for the participation of all parties in finding effective climate solutions, and benefiting from the conference as a platform. Distinguished contribute to strengthening the proactive, realistic and practical approach adopted by the UAE in the march of climate action to achieve sustainable economic development.

His Highness also stressed that this step comes as a continuation of the pioneering role played by the UAE in the field of climate action, as it is the host country for the permanent headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and as the first country in the region to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement, and the first country in the region to launch a strategic initiative To achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and therefore it is keen to make the most of the potential of proactive and innovative climate action as a key driver for building a new model for sustainable, low-emissions economic growth, which contributes to creating job opportunities, as well as new growth sectors, and enhancing the ambitions of the UAE, the region and the world .
