• Pride 2022 The usual Pride returns: two million attendees, more than 50 floats and, this year, with Plaza de España as the epicenter

  • Madrid Gay Pride Agenda 2022: When is it, parade and program of concerts and activities

It is not the first time that

Uge Sangil (La Palma, 1968)

attacks the LGTBI position of the right and the extreme right.

Two years ago he already declared: "The extreme right is still in the institutions, despite the fact that sometimes it wants to appear

LGTBIfriendly

".

He has even criticized some voices of the PSOE against the gender self-determination of the Trans Law, on which he underlined in

Público

: "No party should position itself ideologically in the denial of Human Rights."

A social educator by profession, she has headed the

State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more (Felgtbi+)

since 2018. An activist for 17 years, in 2004 she founded an LGTBI association in Tenerife, called Algarabía, which she led for eight years. .

From there, she jumped to the Federation, where she served as a member of Education until she was elected president, replacing

Jesús Generelo.

This director, writer and activist works today in the Ministry of Equality, as two former presidents of the Federation, the former deputy of Podemos

Beatriz Gimeno

and

Boti García

, committed to the political left since the days of Llamazares in IU.

Since his arrival, Uge Sangil's desire has been to repoliticize the Pride festival and strengthen the entity's independence, after Madrid was chosen as the venue for WorldPride in 2017.

The world event, created by Paul Stenson and organized by the InterPride association, delves into the commodification of the date against the claim of LGTBIQ + rights, as the group has censored.

And the Federation has tried to alleviate it with various gestures: since 2019, the head of the Pride march has been occupied by activists.

In 2020, Sangil revalidated his presidency with 80% support and two challenges: the Trans State Law, which supports the Federation along the lines defended by the Ministry of Equality, and promoting a State Pact against hate speech, which was held its first table in February -with PSOE, United We Can, Citizens, More Country, unions and organizations-.

This Tuesday, in the presentation of Pride 2022, Sangil, who defines herself as a lesbian and trans activist, criticized that

José Luis Martínez-Almeida

"is not everyone's mayor", since the City Council will not hang the rainbow flag in the Palacio de Cibeles .

"A sign of LGBTIphobia, because he is a mayor who does not respect the citizenry," lamented Sangil.

And the representatives of the PP, councilors José Fernández and Almudena Maíllo, got up and left.
