President Yun Seok-yeol's wife, Kim Kun-hee, is expected to make a 'diplomatic debut' next week.

This is a way to attend the spouses session of the NATO Summit to be held in Madrid, Spain from the 29th to the 30th.

As President Yoon's participation in the NATO summit has been confirmed, there is an atmosphere in which Ms. Kim is also expected to accompany her.

An official from the presidential office said at a briefing on the 22nd, "There is an official spouse program in place for this NATO summit," and "whoever wishes can participate."

He added, "We are reviewing it in a way that we can participate as much as possible."

If NATO move is confirmed, it will be her first diplomatic appearance as Mrs. Kim.

Prior to the dinner at the National Museum of Korea during the visit of US President Joe Biden on the 20th and 22nd of last month, Kim received the media spotlight by welcoming her in a 'raised hair', but she did not go on an official schedule.

Above all, she is attracting attention because it means that she is expanding her activities to the stage of multilateral diplomacy at the time when she is moving away from the 'quiet help' of the past and is taking a full-fledged walk.

Ms. Kim has had seven outside schedules in her last week alone.

In addition to her customary schedule of preventing former president's wives, she also attended a concert in memory of the late Major Sim Jung-min on an unofficial private schedule and gave public speeches.

Unlike bilateral summit diplomacy, which is mainly conducted with married couples, many leaders do not accompany them during multilateral diplomacy, in which they engage in simultaneous contact, even to the so-called 'pull aside' (summary talks).

Because of this, even if Mrs. Kim visits Madrid, Spain, there are also observations that she will not digest her own schedule.

While it has not been confirmed whether the other spouses will accompany them, there is also talk of a meeting with US first lady Jill Biden and Japanese first lady Yuko Kishida.

It is also noteworthy whether the South Korea, US, and Japan First Lady program will be prepared in a situation where the weight of 'South Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation' is being put on hold in conjunction with North Korea's successive nuclear and missile provocations.
