The French health authorities are calling on the oldest who have not yet done so, and there are many of them, to receive their second booster shot.

And if the authorities are alarmed, it is because we are witnessing a resumption of the epidemic in the country.

Since the end of May, the dynamics of the epidemic in France have been on the rise: the number of cases has more than doubled in three weeks.

The incidence rate is currently 460 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and even exceeds 750 in Paris.

The number of hospital admissions has started to rise again.

It is two sub-lineages of Omicron, baptized “BA.4” and “BA.5” which are at the origin of this epidemic resumption in France, as in many European countries.

In this context, the French health authorities want to strengthen the protection of the oldest by vaccination, in this case with a 2nd booster, because the effectiveness of the doses of vaccine on the serious forms decreases over time, and in seniors particularly.

To protect yourself from #COVID19, it is recommended to do a new booster dose:

👉 6 months after the first booster from 60 to 79 years old

👉 3 months after the first booster from 80 years old

This 2nd reminder, which can be carried out after a certain period of time after the 1st, has been accessible to people over 60 for a few months.

Except that unlike previous injections, this one is shunned: less than a third of those over 60 who are eligible for it have done it.

A statistic far from sufficient for the health authorities.
